I have been painting and drawing as long as I can remember. My formal training began in the fourth grade at St. John’s Museum in Wilmington, NC under Hester Donnelly. Later I attended the College of Design at North Carolina State University where I studied art and design, earning a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Design degree in 1992. Over the past twenty-five years I have worked as a design and engineering instructor in the public-school system.

Expressionistic and painterly qualities are central in my work, stemming from an influence of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Abstract Expressionism. These qualities are conveyed primarily through color, composition, draftsmanship, and accented by evidence of the brush strokes. The subject of my work varies from landscape to still life to figure, though always derived from close observation of my surroundings. In my work I strive to portray the great diversity of beauty in the world. This can be through compositions that show familiar scenes in a new perspective or through subjects that do not readily appear beautiful.
